Through research* Boots found that just 5% of children think they only need to wear suncream when on holiday abroad. An even lower figure, less than 1% believe they should only wear suncream when on holiday in the UK. *Research carried out amongst 1,051 parents and 1,041 children aged 5-10 by Redshift in July 2008
Mike Brown, Boots Suncare Scientific Adviser says “It’s important that children understand the need to wear sun protection and parents shouldn’t be battling trying to apply suncream to their children. We hope the Funcare routine will go some way to help families understand why it’s so important to protect their skin from the sun’s harmful rays.”
Keeping children safe in the sun can be tricky. Here are Mike’s top five tips:
1. Keep children covered with a loose fitting clothes and brimmed hat, plus wraparound sunglasses with the UV400 stamp.
2. Make sure kids have plenty to drink and stay out of the sun from 11am to 3pm.
3. Look for extended wear suncreams that deliver high SPF and 5 star UVA protection for longer periods of time.
4. Kids’ skin needs extra protection. Always choose a suncream of SPF 30 or more.
5. Apply suncream 15 minutes before your kids go outside to make sure they’re properly protected.
